Mao Junfa, born in August 1965 in Zhujiating Township, Shaoyang County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an expert in electromagnetic field and microwave technology, the president of Shenzhen University, a member of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and the chairman of the Microwave Branch of the Chinese Institute of Electronics.
From September 1981 to July 1985, Mao Junfa studied radiation physics in the Department of Applied Physics, National University of Defense Technology, and received a bachelor's degree.
From September 1985 to July 1988, he studied for a master's degree in experimental nuclear physics at the Shanghai Institute of Atomic Nuclear Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and obtained a master's degree.
From September 1989 to July 1992, he studied for a doctoral degree in electromagnetic field and microwave technology in the Department of Electronic Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and received his doctorate.
From May 1994 to August 1996, he did postdoctoral research at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of California, Berkeley.
In 1999, he was rated as a cross-century outstanding talent by the Ministry of Education and received funding support.
From November 2010 to February 2013, he served as Executive Vice Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
From February 2013 to June 2018, he served as dean and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (appointed in September 2017).
In June 2018, he served as member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (with a one-year probationary period).
In November 2017, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In April 2020, he served as member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
In February 2022, he will be appointed as the president of Shenzhen University.
