Shenyang University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was founded in 1952. The school has now become a multi-disciplinary institution of higher learning featuring aerospace and aerospace, focusing on engineering, and coordinated development of engineering, science, literature, economics, management, and art. The People's Government of Liaoning Province, the Ministry of Education, and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China jointly build a university. It is a university jointly built by the People's Government of Liaoning Province and the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau. The school has successively been awarded honorary titles such as the National Advanced Grass-roots Party Organization, the National Model Workers’ Home, and the National Excellent Yiban Co-constructed Universities.

The school covers an area of 1730.8 mu, with a construction area of 829,600 square meters, a total value of 2.933 billion yuan in fixed assets, and a total value of 669 million yuan in teaching and scientific research equipment. The library has collected more than 2.1 million paper and electronic books. The campus teaching infrastructure is complete, the living logistics support is complete, and the campus environment is beautiful, which can guarantee the study and life of more than 20,000 students of various types with high quality. In 2020, the school will put into use the Aeronautical Engineering Comprehensive Training Center, which can accommodate nearly a thousand people for various types of training. The new postgraduate dormitory building, which will be put into use in 2021, can accommodate nearly 3,000 people at most. The comprehensive building for teaching, experimenting and scientific research of new energy aircraft, which will be put into use in 2023, has nine scientific research platforms and can accommodate 13,240 people to carry out teaching activities.

The school has the right to award doctoral degrees and the right to recommend postgraduate students. There are currently 2 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 14 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and 8 professional degree categories. The school’s engineering discipline has entered the top 1% in the world’s ESI rankings, and 5 disciplines including aerospace propulsion theory and engineering have been approved as national defense characteristic disciplines (directions), and 2 provincial double first-class construction advantage characteristic disciplines.

The school has 25 teaching and research units. There are currently 51 undergraduate enrollment majors, including 9 majors that have passed the professional certification of engineering education, 3 national outstanding engineer education and training programs, 2 national defense key majors and national defense shortage majors of the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau, and 1 national comprehensive reform pilot program. There are 18 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites, 33 provincial-level first-class undergraduate education demonstration majors, 6 provincial-level demonstration majors, 7 provincial-level engineering talent training model reform pilot majors, 2 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot majors, and provincial-level pilot majors. There is 1 advantageous and characteristic major, 3 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot majors, 2 provincial-level key support majors, 2 provincial-level transformation demonstration majors, and 10 application-oriented transformation pilot majors. It has 2 national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 national-level engineering practice education centers, 1 national-level practical education base, 1 national virtual simulation experiment teaching project, 11 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 6 provincial-level virtual simulation centers. Simulation center, 2 provincial-level virtual simulation experiment teaching projects, 13 provincial-level practical education bases, 1 provincial-level comprehensive experimental training base, and 1 provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship practice base. In recent years, it has successively won 81 teaching achievement awards above the provincial level, including 1 national teaching achievement award and 19 provincial first prizes; currently, there are 8 national first-class undergraduate courses and 2 national English-taught brand courses , 182 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 27 provincial excellent courses (including excellent courses, open video courses, resource sharing courses), 81 provincial high-quality teaching resource construction and sharing projects, and 35 school-level resource sharing courses. In the past three years, it has participated in 5869 groups of innovation and entrepreneurship competitions above the provincial level. Among them, 1995 groups won awards in national competitions, 2642 groups won prizes in provincial competitions, involving 25876 award-winning students and 8146 instructors. In the past three years, a total of 1,283 "Great Innovation Plans" have been implemented, including 74 national-level projects and 165 provincial-level projects, with 5,464 students and 1,353 teachers participating.

The school currently has 3 national scientific research platforms, 28 provincial and ministerial key laboratories (engineering centers), 1 provincial collaborative innovation center, 1 provincial military-civilian integration development research base, and 2 provincial new key think tanks. The school has undertaken more than 370 national-level projects. Since 2018, the total amount of scientific research funds has reached 1.42 billion yuan, and the transformation of achievements has reached 580 million yuan. He has published more than 3,800 high-level papers and authorized 426 invention patents. Won 52 provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards, including 10 provincial and ministerial first prizes. The school was approved as a pilot unit for the policy incentives for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements by the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and was awarded the title of Top Ten Universities for the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements by the Provincial Department of Education.

In 2011, the school established a provincial institution——Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute, and systematically carried out the research and development of new energy electric aircraft. Several models have obtained type certificates, completed the first flight, and scientific research and test flights. Among them, three models are world-renowned. The first model obtained the airworthiness certification of the local Civil Aviation Administration, which established the school's international leading and domestic first-class status in the development of electric aircraft. In October 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s new energy aircraft project was determined to be led by the Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute, and was approved to receive a national allocation of 239 million yuan; in 2022, it was approved to conduct research on key technologies of hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine aircraft for a civil aircraft project, with a research funding of 8,430 yuan ten thousand yuan. In 2021, the R&D and innovation team of Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute's new energy electric aircraft won the Innovation Team Award of the Chinese Aeronautical Society. At present, the school has obtained the 141 operation license from the Civil Aviation Administration, and is actively preparing to build a flight academy, focusing on the whole process of training civil aviation transport pilots.

The school currently has more than 1,600 faculty members, 1,060 full-time teachers, and 58.7% of teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 9 specially-appointed academicians, 5 national-level talents, 9 experts enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, 116 provincial-level talents, and 8 shortlisted for the world's top scientists. There is one national defense science and technology innovation team of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, one high-level innovation team of the "Xingliao Talents Program" in Liaoning Province, three Huang Danian-style teacher teams in Liaoning Province, and six innovation teams in colleges and universities in Liaoning Province.

The school has always adhered to an open and international education, and actively expanded international exchanges and cooperation. It has established friendly and cooperative relations with more than 170 colleges and universities and scientific research institutes in more than 40 countries and regions including Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, Finland, Japan, South Korea, and the Czech Republic. At present, there are 2 undergraduate education projects and 1 Sino-foreign cooperative education institution approved by the Ministry of Education. More than 40 inter-school joint training and long-term and short-term exchange projects have been carried out with foreign (overseas) friendly colleges and universities. Since 2007, thousands of international students from more than 80 countries have come to study at the school. At present, there are 5 English-taught undergraduate majors, 5 master’s majors, and 2 doctoral majors for international students, with a team of more than 150 English-taught teachers. In 2011, it was approved as a Chinese government scholarship student training institution. In 2013, it was awarded the "Demonstration Base for Studying in China in Liaoning Province".
